Regional retailer Nakumatt Holdings has opened the doors to its 5th branch in Uganda.
As part of a strategic expansion programme and effort to swiftly recover from the loss of its flagship branch in Kenya following a recent terrorist attack, Nakumatt Uganda has announced the formal opening of Nakumatt Village Hypermarket at the new Village Mall, Bugolobi.
The opening of the US$4.5million Nakumatt Village is part of the retailer’s regional expansion programme and is expected to set the pace for the opening of yet another branch -Nakumatt Katwe- next week at the Muganzirwaza shopping centre in Katwe, Kampala.
Speaking during the opening ceremony in Bugolobi, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Mr Atul Shah disclosed that plans are at advanced stage to facilitate the opening of two more branches in Uganda at the Lakeside town of Entebbe and Kisementi in coming weeks.
In the renewed spirit of East Africa Community Co-operation, Shah reiterated the firm’s commitment to the ideals of the East African community. Such ideals he said are anchored on Nakumatt’s corporate goals to facilitate formal retail development in the region through the provision of a five star brand promise geared at ensuring Quality, Value, Service, Variety and lifestyle up-liftment for its customers.
“As part of our East Africa expansion plans, we are proud to be opening the doors to Nakumatt Vllage once again attesting to our commitment to further deepen the regional retail market while promoting cross border investments,” Shah explained.
And added: “At Nakumatt Holdings, we are encouraged by the steps taken by the East Africa community members and we shall continue to play our part to ensure that the current dream for a common market and community is realized. The support extended by our Smart customers in Uganda and the respective Uganda Government agencies has also helped to inspire our continued expansion in the fast growing Pearl of Africa Market.”
The new Nakumatt Village, which restores Nakumatt’s overall branch count to 40, is also the fifth Nakumatt store in Uganda.
The store covers a shopping floor space of more than 31,000Square feet and features a range of modern retail amenities to complement the Village Mall’s distinct Italian architectural design. Among other fittings, Nakumatt Village is equipped with a retail travelator (in store ramp) for added shopping comfort and convenience.
Customers at the Nakumatt Village, Bugolobi will also enjoy the services of an in store bakery, butchery, hot food deli and a FoneXPress outlet.
Alongside Nakumatt Village, plans are also underway for the opening of the sixth Nakumatt store in Uganda. The sixth store- Nakumatt Katwe- set for opening on Friday next week will be located at the Muganzirwaza shopping centre in Katwe, Kampala.
Still in Uganda, Nakumatt has lined up two more branch openings at Kisementi in the outskirts of Kampala and the lakeside town of Entebbe. At the upcoming Acacia Mall in Kisementi, Nakumatt Kisementi is set to open its doors in November, while the new Nakumatt Entebbe at Victoria Mall will open its doors in December.
